When a selection of emails between climate scientists were published on the internet, a few suggestive quotes were seized upon by many claiming global warming was all just a conspiracy. What the “Climate gate” proves is:
1. Climate change deniers are either criminals or approve of criminal activity
Hacking servers and theft of private correspondence are criminal acts. People who use stolen property are either criminals themselves or openly approve of the crime.
2. Climate change deniers find it acceptable to cooperate with the Russian mafia or Russian secret police
The stolen correspondence was placed on a server in Russia. The server has not been possible to trace. Who is able to operate such a server in Russia? Anyone but the Russian mafia or the FSB? The Russian government is of course happy to cooperate. President Putin is the biggest exporter of fossil fuels in the world, and his regime would most likely fall without the oil and gas revenues of at least USD 1 billion per day.
3. The few climate change deniers with academic credentials are poor scientists with low integrity
They seem to be unable to perform the most basic in all research: source assessment. They seem unable to distinguish between propaganda and scientific sources. They seem unable to distinguish between a fairly normal, internal scientific methods discussions and information given in peer reviewed articles in scientific journals. In addition they use private information that has been acquired through criminal means. Demonstrating their poor academic integrity and ability, it is good reason to question the validity and reliability of any of their research.
4. Several of these “scientists” are happy to receive payment from very biased sources to produce disinformation and produce as much confusing information as possible
Those working for e.g. Heartland-, Competitive Enterprise-, Cato institutes and similar PR entities receive money or other benefits from the fossil fuel multibillionaires as the Koch brothers, Lord Monckton, ExxonMobil, Aramco, Philip Morris and others. They keep repeating in the media all over the world that IPCC and their associated scientists are cheaters. They are also happy to tell us that smoking cigarettes is not dangerous. If it is, there is no correlation between smoking and cancer. If it is, smoking is not addictive. If it is, at least passive smoking is not dangerous etc. They use the same line of arguing in the climate change debate.
5. Western climate change deniers cooperate with undemocratic interests
Those financing global climate denialism are in addition to the Koch bros, Rupert Murdoch and the CEOs of the big oil and coal companies, the world’s biggest oil exporters: The Russian government, The Saudi Arabian royal family, Kuwait, the Emirates, the Chinese communist party controlling the three richest oil companies in the world: PetroChina, Sinopec and Cnooc, the petro tyrants in Iran and other OPEC countries. All these are willing to do anything to keep the fossil fuel age going some more years, and pay any scientist with low integrity to keep deceiving the public and politicians.
6. The hockey stick graph is correct
Climategate claims to have debunked the hockeystick graph. However, the research and conclusions behind the hockey stick graph have been reproduced and confirmed many times by various research groups all over the world.
Several committees by parliamentarians and scientific groups have studied the emails in the “climate gate”. They all reach the same conclusion: the emails do not reveal any scientific dishonesty or manipulation. The Climategate is simply an untruthful and aggressive propaganda stunt concocted by fossil fuel -financed PR institutes.
7. There is a global network of PR agencies financed by the fossil fuel industry
This PR network coordinate production of disinformation, produce “news”, smear- and harassment campaigns of climate scientists. They coordinate hundreds of “net trolls”, sending hate mail. The carbon barons and multibillionaires donating enormous amounts of petro-dollars to this PR network are the Koch-brothers, Exxon Mobil, Aramco (the extreme Islamist regime in Saudi Arabia), other big oil companies, President Putin and petro tyrants in the Middle East. Fabricated news like the Climategate therefore get more attention in the mass media than e.g. the publication of the IPCC reports.
8. The real scandal is that the mass media of the world have swallowed the fossil fuel propaganda bait, hook, line and sink
Very few of the newspapers in the West had the courage – nor the integrity to tell the real story. Mass media in general should demonstrate at least a tiny bit of critical thinking and skepticism when they receive “news” from sources controlled by the Koch Bros.
THE “HOCKEY STICK” IS STRONGER THAN EVER
What is the “Hockey Stick?
Scientists use proxies (sediments, ice cores, tree rings, corals, stalagmites, pollen or historical documents and measurements etc) to discover the climates of the past.
Hockey stick graphs present the global or hemispherical mean temperature record of the past 500 to 2000 years as shown by quantitative climate reconstructions based on climate proxy records. These reconstructions have consistently shown a slow long term cooling trend changing into relatively rapid warming in the 20th century, with the instrumental temperature record by 2000 exceeding earlier temperatures.

- It’s confirmed and improved by the all the most comprehensive studies done on the matter (+ ca 200 other studies).

NAS are one of the most respectable scientific academies and holds a very strong position world wide and in the US, all the way back since it was co-founded by Abraham Lincoln. As of 2016, the National Academy of Sciences includes about 2,350 members and 450 foreign associates. Approximately 200 members have won a Nobel Prize.
The National Academy of Science wrote a book on the topic, confirming Mann’s claims.
